Today our will discuss the story of Subhasini Mistry. She is in a true sense one of the treasures of India. Subhasini Mistry is best known for her work towards the health care system which is mainly dedicated to the poor and unprivileged persons in India.


Subhasini Mistry biography -

In the year 1943, Subhasini Mistry was born in the village named "Kulwa" which is situated near Kolkata, India. This was the time when India was still under British rule and the freedom movement was in its full swing. Subhasini Mistry got married at the early age of 12 years. Yes, you read it correctly 12 years, this is not a typo error, I know 12 years is not an ideal age for marriage but child marriage was a normal custom of India during those time.

For around 12 years Subhasini Devi lived a happy family life with her husband and four children. But catastrophe struck when her husband, Sadhan Chandra Mistry died early due to a lack of proper medical attention in a very minor Aliment. Sadhan Chandra was a street vegetable seller with minimal income, hence his death brought severe poverty to his family. Being widowed and uneducated Subhasini Mistry was found it hard to get a proper job to feed her four children. in desperation, Subhasini Mistry started to follow the pathway of her husband and started to sell vegetables in the streets. But soon she found out that whatever she is earning was not enough for her family. So, besides vegetable selling she stater work as a housemaid and daily wedge labor. with her hard-earned money, she prioritized the educations for her children. Also, she decided to save some of her money so that she can do something for society especially in the field of health care so that no other person had to face the same faith as her husband.


Subhasini Mistry's Works -

Her hard work finally came to success when Subhasini Mistry's son Ajay became a Medical Doctor. Subhasini Mistry decided that she would use all savings to buy land where she would make a clinic for the poor people. As decided she brought an acre of land at Hanspukur village and made a one-room clinic. Her son, Ajay also helped her mother in her vision and finally joined the clinic as a doctor. Soon her clinic gets famous when more than 200 people got proper treatment from this clinic by volunteer doctors. in 1995 this clinic turned into a proper hospital.


Subhasini Mistry Hospital -

Subhasini Mistry named her hospital "Humanity Hospital", which is spread on 3 acres of land in Hanspukur village. Humanity Hospital now becomes one of the renowned hospitals of the District, which consists of 45 beds and all the latest types of medical equipment. Doctors from all specializations such as Cardiology, Neuro Medicine, Orthopedic, Nephrology, Pediatrics, etc. are there for help at all times. Apart from Hanskhali, Subhasini Mistry has another hospital in the Sundarbans area.

Subhasini Mistry Awards -

For her lifetime work, Subhasini Mistry received the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Award. This prestigious award was given to her in the year 2009. in the "Mind-Of-Steel" segment. In 2018, Subhasini Mistry was also awarded the third-highest Indian civilian award "Padma Shri", which she was fully deserved. This award was presented to her by India’s President Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
